Window previews and the Window Switcher
Two ways to find a window without hunting for it: previews from the dock, and the Window Switcher from the keyboard (part of Helm). Both let you act on a window, not only look at it.
Window previews
Rest the pointer on a running app in a Moor dock and a panel shows that app's windows. Previews are on by default. Turn them off in Settings → Docks → Window previews.
Preview delay, under that switch, sets how long you rest before the panel opens: 0.25 seconds to start with, from 0 to 1 second. Once a panel is open, moving to another app opens its panel at once. The panel opens just above the icon as it's drawn, magnified or not, fades out when you leave, and stays if you come back before it has faded.
| You do | It does |
|---|---|
| Click a window | Brings it forward. A minimized window opens again first. |
| Click ✕ on a window | Closes it. |
| Click − on a window | Minimizes it. A minimized window is labelled “(minimized)” and has no −. |
With pictures, the panel shows up to eight windows: one row of up to four, then two rows. If you close the last window, the panel goes away.
What you see depends on two permissions
| Permission | You get |
|---|---|
| Accessibility and Screen Recording | Live pictures of each window, with the buttons above |
| Accessibility only | A list of window titles with the same buttons |
| Neither | One row, Allow Accessibility to see windows…, which opens the permission prompt |
Moor never records, saves or sends your screen; Screen Recording is only used to draw the small pictures. See Permissions.
VoiceOver reads each window as a button named for the app and the window. It also offers Close window and Minimize window as actions.
The same list of windows is in an app's right-click menu in the dock, whether the app is pinned or running. See Docks.
The Window Switcher
The Window Switcher is part of Helm. Turn Helm on in Settings → Parts and the switcher is on with it: hold ⌥ and press Tab for a panel of every window, most recently used first, minimized ones included. Type to filter, ⌘W closes a window, ⌘M minimizes it, ⌘Q quits its app. Its settings are under Settings → Helm, not Settings → Shortcuts.
It needs Accessibility. Thumbnails need Screen Recording; without it each row shows the app's icon. The panel can stay open after you let go of ⌥, and can list windows from every Space. See Helm for all of it.
