Best Dock Replacement for Mac in 2026: Moor, uBar, Dockish and More
Short answer
No one app is best for everybody. If you only want window previews, free DockDoor adds them to Apple's Dock. Dockish is the cheapest full replacement we checked that can put a dock on every monitor. uBar can run as a dock or a taskbar. For per-display docks with widgets, look at DockDoor Pro or Moor, whose widgets also cover sales and coding agents.

A quick disclosure first: this is Moor's website, so treat our verdict with the same caution as you would any maker's roundup. Most of the top comparison pages are also written by companies that sell a dock app. Several facts below come from Appish, which sells Dockish, and from docktor's own site, so read their framing as the maker's view. To keep things fair, every fact about another app below links to the page it came from, and the table says plainly where we found nothing.
Replace the Dock, or just add to it?
macOS gives you a single Dock. Appish points out that even with "Displays have separate Spaces" turned on, the Dock shows on only one display at a time. Most of the apps in this space exist to fill that gap. So the first question is whether you want a brand new Dock or a better version of Apple's.
Add-ons keep Apple's Dock. DockDoor is free and open source. It adds window previews and Alt+Tab to the built-in Dock and runs on macOS 13 Ventura or later. docktor is also free and needs macOS 26 Tahoe. It adds live window previews, a Command-Tab window switcher and glass music, calendar and weather widgets.
Full replacements hide Apple's Dock and draw their own. This group includes Moor, uBar, ActiveDock 2, Dockish and DockDoor Pro. They handle several displays in different ways:
- Moor lets you have as many docks as you like. Each one can be pinned to a specific display on its own edge, shown on all displays, or set to follow the pointer or the active window.
- uBar gives each screen its own bar showing only that screen's apps and windows, or mirrors the same bar everywhere.
- Dockish has three modes. All Monitors mirrors the same layout on every display, Main Only keeps the dock on the primary display, and only Independent gives each monitor its own layout with different pinned apps.
- DockDoor Pro lists a different Dock on every display.
- ActiveDock 2's pages only mention multiple-monitor support, without saying how it works.
If multiple monitors are the reason you're looking, you can skip the add-ons.
Side-by-side: docks per display, widgets, profiles and price
| App | Type | Docks per display | Live widgets | Profiles | Price | Needs |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Moor | Full replacement | As many docks as you like; each goes on one specific display, the main display, the display with the pointer or active window, or all displays (optionally outer edges only), on any edge | Clock, calendar, weather, now playing, system stats, sales (Stripe, Shopify and more), GitHub and coding agents (full list) | Yes, switched by keystroke, swipe, Shortcuts, links or monitor changes | $29 once, all your own Macs, 14-day trial | macOS 26 |
| DockDoor Pro | Full replacement | A different Dock on every display | Widget marketplace: clock, weather, battery, now playing | Yes | $20 once, 3 Macs | macOS 14.6 Sonoma |
| Dockish | Full replacement | All Monitors (mirrored), Main Only, or Independent (own layout per monitor) | Not found in our sources | Not found in our sources | $6.99 once, $9.99 from November 1, 2026, 7-day trial | macOS 14 Sonoma |
| uBar | Dock or taskbar | Its own bar per screen, or Mirror mode | Not found in our sources | Not found in our sources | Personal: $39, up to 2 Macs. Commercial: $69 per employee, up to 2 Macs | macOS 26 |
| ActiveDock 2 | Replaces Dock and Launchpad | Multiple-monitor support (our sources don't say whether each display gets its own dock) | Not found in our sources | Not found in our sources | $15.99 on MacUpdate (version 2.884, October 2026); $24.99 Standard or $60 Lifetime on Softpedia (version 2.870, July 2026) | macOS 14.6 per MacUpdate; macOS 11.5 per the older Softpedia listing |
"Not found in our sources" means the pages we checked don't mention that feature. It doesn't mean the app lacks it. Check the developer's site before you decide.
Out-of-date pricing is common. An older cached uBar page still says $30 / $50 and macOS 10.13, but the live site says $39 for a Personal license and $69 per employee for a Commercial license (each covers up to two Macs) and macOS 26. ActiveDock is messier. MacUpdate's listing for version 2.884, dated October 2026, says $15.99 for macOS 14.6 or later. Softpedia's listing for version 2.870, last updated July 27, 2026, says $24.99 Standard, $60 Lifetime and macOS 11.5. The MacUpdate listing covers the newer build, but neither is the developer's own store, so check the price at checkout before you pay.
Which one fits your workflow
The cheapest dock on every monitor: Dockish
For a different dock on each monitor, use Dockish's Independent mode; the other two modes mirror one layout or stay on the main display. In Independent mode, icon size can be set per monitor from 24 to 96 px, while auto-hide and edge placement (bottom, left or right) apply to every dock at once. If you buy before November 1, 2026, it's $6.99.
You think in windows, not apps: uBar
uBar can run as a dock or a taskbar. Its site says each screen can get its own bar showing only that screen's apps and windows, or you can use Mirror mode to show the same bar everywhere. The current version is 5.0.3 from October 16, 2026, which needs macOS 26 Tahoe and supports macOS 27.
You want Apple's Dock, only better: ActiveDock 2 or DockDoor Pro
ActiveDock 2 keeps the familiar Dock look while replacing both the Dock and Launchpad. It adds grouping of apps and documents, window previews and custom themes and icons. DockDoor Pro has Minimize Into Dock: press Command-M and the window goes into its app's icon in DockDoor Pro instead of the hidden macOS Dock. It hides the built-in Dock under Placement & Hiding. On macOS 27 and later, a "Hide Native Dock in Mission Control" option on the same page also keeps Apple's Dock out of Mission Control and App Exposé; on earlier versions, macOS may still show it there.
You want your work in the dock: Moor
Moor's widgets put things like your next meeting, today's sales and your coding agents' status in the dock, and each Moor dock can sit on a specific display, follow the pointer or active window, or appear on all displays. Each dock gets its own theme: seven come built in (Glass, Clear, Midnight, Paper, Neon, Terminal and Islands), and you can duplicate one to make your own. Profiles can switch automatically when your monitors change. The trade-offs: it needs macOS 26 Tahoe or later, and if you only want a plain launcher, most of its widgets will go unused.
You only want previews: DockDoor
If Apple's Dock is fine and you only miss window previews, free DockDoor is the simplest fix.
Trying Moor without losing your setup
Moor can import a dock from uBar or ActiveDock. It makes one new Moor dock with the same apps in the same order. It isn't a profile, and it doesn't decide whether Apple's Dock shows; that's the active profile's mode in Settings → Profiles.
- Quit uBar or ActiveDock first, so its settings are saved before you import.
- Download Moor, drag it into Applications and open it. The setup guide saves your current Dock before it changes anything.
- In the setup guide, choose Moor's dock, then allow Accessibility so badges and minimized windows show up.
- Open Settings → Docks, click + and choose Import from uBar or Import from ActiveDock (these appear when Moor finds those apps), or Import from Another Dock App….
- Press Control-Option-E, set the edge and display from the Placement menu, pick a look from the Theme menu, and press Done.
For more than one display arrangement, the monitor guide shows how to switch profiles automatically. Changed your mind? Go to the menu bar → Manage Profiles → Restore Original Dock…. Quitting Moor also brings Apple's Dock back.
Next steps
- New to Moor? Follow the complete first-run guide.
- Read the Docks documentation for every placement and behavior option.
- Install two finalists side by side during their trials, and keep the one you stop noticing.
Moor has a free 14-day trial at moorapp.com.
Common questions
Can I get a Dock on every monitor on a Mac without a third-party app?
No. macOS has one Dock, and even with Displays have separate Spaces turned on, only one display shows it at a time. Full replacements fill the gap in different ways: Moor lets you pin separate docks to displays or show one on all displays, uBar gives each screen its own bar, DockDoor Pro lists a different Dock per display, and Dockish does it only in Independent mode. Add-ons like free DockDoor don't.
What's the difference between DockDoor and DockDoor Pro?
DockDoor is free and open source. It adds window previews and Alt+Tab to Apple's built-in Dock and runs on macOS 13 Ventura or later. DockDoor Pro is a separate $20 one-time purchase for 3 Macs that replaces the Dock completely. It adds a Dock on every display, widgets, profiles, a file tray with AirDrop, folders that fan out and Minimize Into Dock, and needs macOS Sonoma 14.6 or later.
Is there a free Dock replacement for Mac?
The free options we found are add-ons, not full replacements. DockDoor adds window previews and Alt+Tab to Apple's Dock, and docktor adds previews and glass widgets on macOS 26 Tahoe. The full replacements cost money but offer trials: Moor has 14 days with no card, and Dockish has 7 days. Check each developer's page for current terms before you install.
How do I get Apple's Dock back after trying a replacement?
In Moor, go to the menu bar, choose Manage Profiles, then Restore Original Dock… (or open Settings → Advanced → Your Dock). Moor saves your original Dock before changing anything, and quitting Moor always brings Apple's Dock back. For other apps, check the developer's documentation, because each one hides and restores the Dock its own way.
Which Dock replacements support macOS 26 Tahoe?
Moor and uBar both list macOS 26 Tahoe as their minimum, and uBar 5.0.3 also supports macOS 27. Dockish lists macOS 14 Sonoma or later and DockDoor Pro lists macOS Sonoma 14.6 or later as minimums, but the pages we checked don't say whether they've been tested on Tahoe, so confirm with each developer. ActiveDock 2's minimum varies by storefront, so check its current listing too.
