# How to Put a Dock on Every Monitor on Your Mac

macOS has one Dock. Apple says that with Displays have separate Spaces on, the Dock is available on all displays, but users in Apple's forums report it moves to one screen at a time rather than staying on two. For a dock on every monitor, use a Dock replacement. In Moor, press Control-Option-E, open Placement and choose All displays. Moor can also make a dock follow your pointer or the active window, or use outer edges only.

## Why macOS shows only one Dock

As one MacRumors forum member put it, unlike the menu bar, which shows on every screen, [there is only one Dock, and it is set to show on the primary display](https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/show-dock-on-both-screens.2406884/).

Apple's wording here is worth reading closely. The setting that matters is **Displays have separate Spaces**, near the bottom of **System Settings → Desktop & Dock** under Mission Control. According to [Apple's Mac User Guide](https://support.apple.com/en-me/guide/mac-help/mchlp1119), when it's on "the Dock is available on all displays," and when it's off the Dock appears only on the main display.

"Available" is the key word. In an Apple Support Communities thread, users report that [you cannot have the Dock constantly visible on more than one display at a time](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7826397). By those reports, what you get is a Dock that moves to one screen at a time.

Before you turn that toggle off, know that Apple says it [must be on to use Split View on your other displays or to use Stage Manager](https://support.apple.com/en-me/guide/mac-help/mchlp1119).

### What you can do without extra apps

| Goal | Built-in setting | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Keep the Dock on the main display only | Displays have separate Spaces off ([Apple](https://support.apple.com/en-me/guide/mac-help/mchlp1119)) | No Split View on other displays, no Stage Manager (per Apple) |
| Let the Dock move to another screen | Displays have separate Spaces on ([Apple](https://support.apple.com/en-me/guide/mac-help/mchlp1119)) | Not documented by Apple. Users in [one forum thread](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7826397) report it showed on one screen at a time, and only with displays side by side and the Dock at the bottom; your results may differ |

On that second row, users in the same thread say [only a horizontal display layout combined with the Bottom position](https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7826397) let the Dock move to whichever screen's bottom edge they pushed the pointer to, after a short delay. With displays stacked one above the other and the Dock on the left or right, it stayed on the main display. This comes from a single forum thread, not Apple's documentation, so results may differ with your macOS version and arrangement.

## Third-party apps for multi-display docks

Third-party apps work around the one-Dock limit, either by drawing their own docks or by managing Apple's. Here is what each one's listing or a published review says. The sources below don't confirm macOS 26 (Tahoe) support for most of these apps (DockApp's site is the one that names macOS 26), so if you're on macOS 26, check the linked page before buying. Prices and requirements can change too.

| App | What it does across displays | Details from the source |
|---|---|---|
| [DockLock Plus](https://apps.apple.com/us/app/docklock-plus/id6743010619?mt=12) | Adds Dock Follows Mouse and Dock Follows Active Window to Apple's Dock | The [DockLock Lite listing](https://apps.apple.com/app/docklock-lite/id6741814079) says it needs the Dock at the bottom and Displays have separate Spaces on |
| [DockDoor Pro](https://pro.dockdoor.net/) | Replaces the Dock, with a Dock on every display, fanning folders, widgets and profiles | The base [DockDoor](https://dockdoor.net/) is free and open source and adds window previews and Alt+Tab to Apple's Dock |
| [Dockish](https://appish.app/blog/mac-dock-on-every-monitor-multi-monitor-setup) | Its own dock on every display at once; Independent mode lets each monitor's apps be edited separately | 7-day free trial, per Appish |
| [ExtraDock](https://zidrun.gumroad.com/l/extradock) | Multiple floating or fixed docks pinned to any edge, with per-screen position memory | From $27 on its Gumroad page |
| [MultiDock Pro](https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/multidock-pro/id6758738739) | Separate docks on each connected display | Listing says macOS 15 or later, £4.99 on the Mac App Store; macOS 26 isn't named specifically |
| [ActiveDock 2](https://alternativeto.net/software/activedock/about) | A Dock replacement with multi-monitor support | One-time purchase of $19, per AlternativeTo |
| [DockApp](https://dockapp.app/) | Sends the dock to a chosen display or lets it follow your pointer | Requires macOS 26 and Apple silicon, so it isn't an option on Intel Macs; one-time purchase for up to 3 Macs, listed at $9.99 as an early-bird launch price, so check the maker's site for the current price |
| [HiDock](https://sixcolors.com/post/2023/01/hi-dock-lets-you-tweak-your-macs-dock-for-multiple-displays/) | Changes Apple's Dock size, position and auto-hide based on which displays are connected | From a January 2023 Six Colors review, which notes it can't give different displays different contents |
| [uBar](https://www.kevinleary.net/blog/mac-dock-multiple-external-monitors/) | A taskbar-style replacement some users set up across several displays | Often paired with a window tool to keep windows clear of the bar |

MacRumors forum members also mention [Sidebar, InfyniDock and TaskBar](https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/possible-to-show-the-dock-on-two-monitors.2431212/) as docks that can appear on two screens at once. Pick whichever fits your Mac, macOS version and budget.

## How Moor does it, step by step

Moor draws its own docks, and each one has its own display setting: one copy per screen, pinned to a single monitor, or following you around. Moor runs on macOS 26 (Tahoe) and later, on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

New to Moor? On first launch, the setup guide saves your current Dock, then asks which Dock you want: pick **Moor's dock**. If you already use Moor's docks, start at step 1.

1. Press Control-Option-E (or choose **Edit Docks** in the menu bar). The icons wiggle and a toolbar appears above the dock.
2. Open the **Placement** menu.
3. Choose an edge (bottom, left, right or top) and an alignment.
4. Choose a display option from the table below, such as **All displays**.
5. Press **Done**, or Control-Option-E again.

For more options, click **Settings…** in the edit toolbar to open the dock's page in **Settings → Docks**, with a live preview. Use **Don't show on** to leave out particular displays. Moor sizes each copy to its display, so a vertical monitor gets a dock that fits; turn on **Same size on every display** to size every copy for the smallest screen instead.

| Display option | What it does | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Main display | Always on the main display | One primary screen |
| Display with the active window | Follows the window you're working in | Keyboard-heavy work |
| Display with the pointer | Moves to whichever display the pointer is on | Mouse and trackpad users |
| Outer edge of the desk | Sits on the outside edge of your arrangement | One dock, out of the way |
| All displays | One copy per display | A true dock on every monitor |
| All displays, outer edges only | One copy per display, skipping shared edges | Side docks on side-by-side screens |
| A specific display | Pinned to one monitor | Dedicated docks per screen |

### Pointer, active window or outer edges?

**Display with the pointer** puts the dock wherever your hand is. **Display with the active window** keeps it next to your work even if the pointer has wandered. Both give you one dock that moves, on any edge you choose.

Outer edges matter with side docks. With two monitors side by side and a dock on the left of each, the right monitor's left edge touches the other screen, so its dock sits in the gap your pointer crosses constantly. **All displays, outer edges only** skips those shared edges. If a dock does sit on a shared edge, Moor fades it instead of sliding it and makes the edge "sticky" so you can still reveal it.

## Tips for different docks on different screens

**All displays** shows the same dock everywhere. For different contents per monitor, make separate Moor docks and set each to **A specific display** in **Settings → Docks**. Each dock has its own theme too, so a side dock can use Terminal or Paper while the main one stays Glass. See [Docks](/docs/docks/) for every placement option.

- **Developers:** keep apps on a bottom dock on the main screen, and put a slim side dock with the Agents widget on the second screen. It shows Claude Code and Codex sessions and badges the app when an agent needs you.
- **Store owners:** put Shopify or Stripe tiles on the secondary display. Meeting mode hides revenue during calls.
- **Laptop plus desk:** in **Settings → Automation → Monitor setups**, choose **Add Current Setup** once on the laptop alone and once at your desk, and pick a profile for each. Moor switches when you plug in or unplug. See [Profiles](/docs/profiles/) and [Automation](/docs/automation/).

Each dock's **Behaviour** settings help on busy desks: **Automatically hide and show**, **Hide when an app is fullscreen**, **Hide while using** chosen apps, and **Opacity when idle**.

## Troubleshooting and limits

- **Apple's Dock still shows next to Moor's.** Your active profile is set to **Apple's Dock** or **Both**. Switch it to **Moor only** in **Settings → Profiles**, or open `moor://mode?mode=custom`.
- **A dock won't appear on one screen.** Check **Don't show on** in Settings → Docks, and whether the dock is set to outer edges only.
- **No badges or minimized windows.** Turn on Accessibility in **Settings → Permissions**, then allow Moor in **System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility**.
- **You want the old setup back.** Choose menu bar → **Manage Profiles → Restore Original Dock…**. Quitting Moor also brings Apple's Dock back.

## Next steps

- Read [Docks](/docs/docks/) for placement, behaviour and stacks.
- Set up a profile per monitor arrangement with [Profiles](/docs/profiles/).
- Try **All displays** first, then switch to pointer or active window if a single moving dock suits you better.

## Common questions

### Why does my Mac Dock only show on one monitor?

macOS has a single Dock. Apple's guide says that with Displays have separate Spaces turned on in System Settings, Desktop & Dock, the Dock is available on all displays. Users in an Apple Support Communities thread report that in practice it moves to the screen you're using and doesn't stay visible on two screens at once, though that's a user report, not Apple's documentation. With the setting off, the Dock stays on the main display.

### Does Displays have separate Spaces put the Dock on all screens?

Apple's guide says the Dock becomes available on all displays when the setting is on. In one Apple Support Communities thread, users say it moved to one screen at a time for them, and only with displays side by side and the Dock at the bottom. That's a single forum report, so your results may differ. The setting must stay on for Split View on other displays or Stage Manager.

### How do I put a Moor dock on every monitor?

Press Control-Option-E to edit your docks, open the Placement menu in the toolbar and choose All displays. Moor shows one copy of the dock per display and sizes each copy to its screen. To make every copy the same size, open the dock in Settings, Docks and turn on Same size on every display. Press Done when you're finished.

### What does All displays, outer edges only do in Moor?

It puts a copy of the dock on each display but skips edges that two displays share. For example, with two monitors side by side and docks on the left, the right monitor's left edge borders the other screen, so it gets no dock. This keeps docks out of the gap your pointer crosses when you move between screens.

### Can each monitor have a different dock in Moor?

Yes. Use separate Moor docks and set each one to A specific display on its page in Settings, Docks. Each dock keeps its own items and theme. Profiles decide which docks are on screen, and the Monitor setups option in Settings, Automation can switch profiles automatically when you connect or disconnect displays.
